Iceland is known as an expensive destination, but a single "average daily cost" is guesswork. Below are the fees we could verify on official or operator pages, with dates, and a calculator that combines them with your own quotes. All amounts are in Icelandic krónur (ISK).

Verified fixed prices

Checked on 24 October 2026; prices change, so follow the source link before you rely on them:

Trip cost calculator

Fill in your own quotes. Fixed fees in the form come from the table above. The result updates as you type and is an estimate, never a quote. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

What we deliberately do not quote

  • Car rental prices: they depend on dates, car class, insurance and demand. Get live quotes and read what the insurance excludes (see insurance basics).
  • Fuel prices: they differ by station and change often. The N1 price list is published live on its site [10].
  • Hotel and guesthouse rates, food and tour prices: no official reference prices exist that we could cite. Compare live offers.
  • Exchange rates: the calculator works in ISK only. Convert with your bank's rate on the day.

Ways to keep costs down (no numbers, just logic)

  • Book summer beds early, especially on the South Coast, where Visit Iceland advises booking well ahead between Selfoss and Höfn [11].
  • Combine Skaftafell and Jökulsárlón on the same day to get the 50% second-area discount [2].
  • Choose fewer, longer stays: fewer check-ins, less driving, less fuel.
  • Swim like a local: compare the public pool price above with the prices of any commercial spa you consider.

FAQ

Is there a new fee for rental cars in Iceland in 2026?

Yes. From 1 January 2026 a kilometre fee of ISK 6.95 per km applies to cars up to 3.5 tonnes; rental companies can pass it on, or pay a daily fee of ISK 1,390 per rental day instead. Check your rental contract. [5] [6]

Why don't you give an average daily budget?

Because we have not found an official, current source for one. Car, lodging and fuel prices change daily, so the calculator asks for your own quotes and only pre-fills fees we could verify.
